Ultimate Website Features Checklist: Here’s What You Must Have On Your Site

What’s a great business without an amazing website? Well... nothing.

It makes sense – a website is the first touch point that our users have with us. It contributes to our brand’s credibility, customer engagement, and overall, to our product’s success. In fact, Adobe even stated that 38% of users lose interest in a product if the app or website design lacks engagement or simply looks bad. This is why it’s so important to make sure that we impress our potential customers with a great UI/UX design.

So, you might ask yourself, “How to make a website?” or maybe “What does a website include?”.

Well, this is why we decided to help you kickstart your product design and make sure your website looks fantastic. We have created a website checklist with all the must-haves for our UI UX design.

Note: While certain UI features will be more important than others depending on your industry, audience, or goals, we’ve included all the universal user interface elements that are great for the website of any business, small start-up, or even freelancer. Plus, I’ve also added some more items that will make your website pop off, in addition to the standard checklist you must include.

What To Include In The Page Header:

  1. Domain Name – a simple domain name that is easy and catchy enough for your users to remember. While the .com domain is the one you should aim for, new domain extensions (.io, .co, etc.) could also be used. Sometimes, this new domain extension might even have a better flow.
  2. Logo – This is the visual representation of your business. 75% of people identify and associate a brand simply by looking at its logo. Don’t forget to link your home page to your logo.
  3. TagLine – A short and simple of what your product or service does. However, do not use this feature if you have multiple products. Focus on presenting the benefits of your products rather than this feature.
  4. Search Bar – A search bar is extremely useful if you have a lot of content so that users can easily find everything they need. Note that this helps your SEO and makes your website more easy to use. Make sure that it is displayed at all times and accessible to your users.
  5. Call-to-Action – CTA buttons are one of the most important features that every website must have – whether it is to sign up or buy your product. It is recommended to have a CTA button on the top right of the navigation bar of your website so that it’s easy for users to find it. Also, do not overuse it because it may turn users off seeing so many call-to-action buttons.
  6. Social Media Icons – This allows our users to connect with us through social media means. Plus, you can also improve your SEO by introducing even more links to your website.
  7. Navigation Bar – Every website must have a navigation bar – especially if you have a lot of content. It is usually either at the top of the website or on the sides and includes all the links necessary to navigate through multiple sections of your page.

What To Include In The Content of a Website

  1. Hero Section –  Include a hero image or video that captures the essence of your brand and promotes the key message, along with a catchy headline that will make your user understand what you sell.
  2. Main Features or Products Section – This is your opportunity to talk about your product or features. Put in light all the details that make your company great or even set you apart from the competition. Include images or icons and a simple and compelling description. Don’t forget to include a CTA button – here is the best place to position it.
  3. Reviews and Testimonials Customer feedback is extremely important to gain a potential customer's confidence that your product or service is good. Showcase the most positive testimonials or reviews from satisfied customers. Make sure to include a photo or avatar of the person along with their name, company, and job title. In some cases, the job title and company logo might be enough.
  4. Statistics – Include statistics regarding why your users should buy your product or simply highlight your achievements.
  5. Internal Links – You should include internal links across your website’s inner pages to ensure that the user can get all the information they need.
  6. Site Page Links – You can also include links to a specific section of your page to help visitors automatically jump to that section without having to scroll through the content.

What To Include In The Footer Of A Website

  1. Copyright Notice – It is probably the most essential component of a website. And it’s specifically designed to ensure that people won’t copy or steal any information or content from our website.
  2. Privacy Policy – Privacy Policy links are necessary if we’re collecting data, such as email addresses, phone numbers, or even payment information.
  3. Sitemap – Sitemaps are important for search engine bots as they use this XML file to crawl websites.
  4. Contact Information – Website footers are mainly used to find contact information for a business. Include your address, email address, phone number, and even fax number.
  5. Social Media Icons – Another way to help people get in touch with you is through social media profile links. It’s also a good way to promote your social media accounts.
  6. Sign-up Form – If a user scrolls to the bottom of your website, they will likely be a good lead. So, to increase your chances of converting them, include another sign-up form.
  7. Footer Links – Footer links appear on pretty much all pages of a website and are used to help people navigate all pages of your website.
