How to Write a UX Design Resume?

If you are looking for UX jobs, you will need a UX design resume written on point. When writing your UX design resume, you can mention your experience with UX research and the app and mobile design you have been working on.

And, as in any area of work, a well-written resume can help you get the desired job. A resume is where employers create their first impression about you and where, as a UX designer, you can be put in the spotlight or not.

What does a UX Designer Do?

A UX designer, also known as a user experience, is a person who takes care of the way the possible users interact with the web or app design. It creates a flawless interaction, and it helps the product have a better success rate. With the help of a UX designer, we ensure that the tasks that need to be accomplished can be accomplished.

A user experience designer takes care of:

  • A/B testing – Involves testing multiple versions to see how the audience reacts to the design and which one they prefer more.
  • Accessibility – Creating an accessible design is a must. Every UX designer should consider everyone’s needs and create an inclusive design.
  • Create a Persona – You will need to create a persona representing the possible audience to which you will deliver your design. Depending on your audience, you can generate the best user experience for them and see what they like, their habits, and how they react to the app or web design.

Tips on Writing the Best UX Design Resume

  • Don’t overdo it – No one likes someone exaggerating in their resume. Be concise about your skills and mention just the right qualities and words. Better stay efficient and don’t overdo it with unnecessary details.
  • Start out strong – Talk about results and mention the impact that you made. Most of the time, employers are looking for a person who can make a change. So, when writing your UX design resume mention all the improvements you made and how you sustained and nurtured an excellent user experience.
  • Put relevant traits and skills into the spotlight – Focus on the skills that make you who you are. Mention both soft and hard skills, and don’t forget that hard skills can always be taught, but soft skills are already developed. And, if this might be your first job, do not worry. Write about skills you have in the real world and your education. Mention your favorite activities and hobbies, and mention anything that is relevant.
  • Don’t get stuck on one singular page – Be concise when writing your UX design resume; however, if you need more than one page to write about your past experiences, do not hesitate to write more than that. Offer all the essential details and include relevant experiences in your resume and
  • Don’t exaggerate with the design – We know you're a designer, and seeing your design projects is a must-have when creating a UX design resume. However, don’t try to include endless pages of your portfolio in your resume. Instead, mention your favorite designs and those you are proud of. It’s also important to note that watermarks, excessive iconography, emoji, too many colors, and animations have no place in your resume.
  • Don’t use jargon – Use a language that everyone can understand and is accessible. Use simple and clear language that doesn’t include only technical terms; instead, use colloquial and familiar language. By incorporating jargon in your resume, you might risk causing confusion and telling a story that can not be understood.
  • Be a team player – Working as a UX designer will probably require working and collaborating with other team members. Mention your skills regarding working in a team or how you prefer to work. You will be talking to the client, sales, and the developers, and so on. So, be specific with those traits.
  • Don’t use too much humor – Humor is fun outside or in the real world. Yet, when writing your resume, you might need to double-think your decisions. Interviewers might need to read your resume more than once, and going over and over through the same joke might start to feel annoying.
  • Be useful – A UX designer needs to create a valuable user experience, which can only happen when offering helpful information. So, writing and choosing useful information to add to your design must be one of your strong characteristics.
  • Write in the present – Use the present tense to discuss your experience.
  • Use numbers – When it is the case, avoid words such as “some”, and “a few”. This will help you discuss your experiences and create a clearer view.
